This image came by chance while visiting Kinglake National Park just north of Melbourne, Victoria. The area was savaged by fire during the infamous Black Saturday fire of 2009. The burnt out ridgelines have spawned a mass of grass trees all jostling for sunlight in the mountain air. The back-lit interlacing of grass-tree needles was mesmerizing against a background of fresh tree growth and charred remains. I grabbed an old grass-tree flower lying on the ground, stood in frame and did like everything else - reached for the sky. By happenstance the flowers silhouette almost perfectly matches two out of kilter needles from the grass-tree in foreground left, a nice coincidence.
